Sam didn't get a pony ride this summer so he just rides Richard. Richard is very tormented by Sam and avoids him as much as possible. I think he feels a lot more love towards Max than his younger brother. Look how tightly Richard's eyes are closed as he "tolerates" Sam.

sam has the meanest look on his face where he is on all fours and max is standing smiling...i think he got that look from his dad. looks like Sam is still into eating dirt too.
